Plan Your Trip to Ice Castles!

By Michele Pullo, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Boulder and Macaroni Kid Longmont March 2, 2019

When I knew my family was taking a few days to head up to Keystone, I knew we had to go to Ice Castles in Dillon. I thought my kids would get excited about it and I was looking forward to checking it out for you, my Macaroni Kid readers.  If you read my articles on our trip to Keystone, you know that my kids were not open to much that weekend.  Everything changed when we walked into the Ice Castle experience.

My sullen middle schooler started smiling immediately and my third grader was quickly zooming down slides. My husband was game to go, but I think he was surprised to discover how cool this place is.  See what I did there?  ; )  We went at night so the lights were amazing! It looks like the ice is turning colors and it really makes you catch your breath.  There are a few different sized slides for younger children and a big slide for older kids and parents!  My 8yr old was fine on the big one, and so was I!  It was a blast!

Be sure to wear winter/ski wear and snow boots as there are several tunnels to climb through (some smaller than others…) and there’s no place to sit down other than the snow and ice.  There are no strollers allowed, but you can bring a sled!  We would have stayed longer but a storm had rolled in and it was getting chilly. Once you’re ready to head out there is a building just across the street from the exit that sells frozen yogurt and hot chocolate.  It turns out, freezing kids can still manage to eat frozen yogurt. Who knew?

Make plans to head up soon as Ice Castles Dillon will close for the season after March 9th
